Information about the project:

This 96,500-square-foot middle school was constructed to replace an existing structure damaged by a major earthquake. Designed as a modern, resilient learning environment, the facility includes academic classrooms, a multi-purpose gymnasium, cafeteria, and specialized vocational education spaces such as a small engine repair shop, woodworking shop, welding shop, and lab classrooms.

The mechanical scope included comprehensive domestic water and sewer systems, along with an interface to an exterior insulated fire water storage tank. The building is heated with a high-efficiency hydronic system powered by dual-fuel natural gas/propane boilers, supported by on-site propane storage to ensure uninterrupted heating and kitchen operations during emergency conditions.

Ventilation and air quality systems were tailored to the diverse needs of the facility. Specialty exhaust systems were installed to serve fume hoods in lab classrooms, as well as the small engine, welding, and wood shops—ensuring a safe and compliant learning environment.

As part of the contract, the mechanical contractor provided both design and installation services for seismic bracing of all mechanical systems and equipment, enhancing structural resilience and ensuring compliance with applicable seismic design codes.
