Fort Wainwright 348 Hanger

Information about the project: Design and construct of a 130,722 sq ft helicopter maintenance facility consisting of a hangar with attached two story shop, office spaces, and a separate 1,667 sq ft fire protection pump house with two 216,000 gallon insulated exterior fire water storage tanks. Direct bury utilities connect the facility to the Ft. Wainwright steam, domestic water, and sewer system and a 160-ton air cooled chiller provides cooling for the shop and office areas. The hangar floor and other slab on grade areas were provided with radiant slab heating.

Project met LEED certification requirements.


As the mechanical contractor we were responsible for the following systems:

  • Plumbing systems-domestic, sanitary water, waste and venting
  • Radiant heat and snow melt slabs
  • Seismic anchor and restraint design and implementation
  • Steam and condensate piping
  • Chiller pipe and equipment systems
  • Water Treatment
  • Compressed air system
  • Wash Rack Equipment and paint booth ventilation
  • Heat and hydronic piping
  • Extensive commissioning, testing and balancing
