Information about the project:
Slayden Plumbing & Heating proudly partnered with the Chenga Regional Development Corporation to construct a 6,185-square-foot Multi-Purpose Lodging Facility in the Village of Chenga, Alaska. This two-story, wood-framed structure is designed to provide versatile residential accommodations and shared amenities tailored to the region’s unique needs.
The facility includes:
-
Two one-bedroom apartments
-
Two two-bedroom apartments
-
Three three-bedroom apartments
-
A shared multi-use common area featuring a kitchenette, laundry facilities, and a centralized mechanical/electrical room
Each apartment is equipped with a full kitchen—including a single-compartment sink, electric range, and refrigerator. One- and two-bedroom units are furnished with three-quarter baths, while the three-bedroom units offer full bathrooms to support family-style living.
Mechanical & Plumbing Systems
The building’s heating system is powered by two high-efficiency oil-fired boilers connected to a 500-gallon, double-walled above-ground fuel storage tank. Heating distribution is customized by zone:
-
Radiant floor heating for first-floor slab-on-grade apartments
-
Hydronic baseboard heating for second-floor apartments
-
Unit heater for the mechanical/electrical room
Each apartment is ventilated independently via dedicated heat recovery ventilators (HRVs), with an additional HRV system serving the common multi-purpose area.
The plumbing system includes:
-
Indirect-fired domestic water heating with integrated tempering valve
-
Pumped hot water recirculation for consistent delivery
-
Gravity drainage tied to an on-site leach field
-
Insulated and heat-traced “Arctic pipe” water service connected to the village water system
This project showcases our expertise in delivering complex mechanical and plumbing systems in remote, cold-climate environments while prioritizing resident comfort, system efficiency, and long-term reliability.
